What is GitHub Copilot?
GitHub Copilot not only provides code completion as you type, but also helps with understanding requirements, writing and modifying code, and reviewing pull requests—all in support of your development workflow. The official website outlines various access points, including the editor, CLI, GitHub, and desktop apps, as well as cloud-based AI capabilities and organizational management features.
Users can select models and agents based on their workflow and integrate the corresponding capabilities into existing projects. Individual and organizational plans differ in terms of quotas, model access, management, privacy, and support; therefore, a single free entry point cannot encompass all product benefits.
The generated code and review comments need to be returned to the project context for validation. This can reduce redundant development effort, but it does not replace testing, the code owner’s judgment, or the existing merge process.
