What is Duo Chat?
GitLab Duo Chat can analyze code, merge requests, and issues, and answer questions based on the selected code. The official documentation lists entry points such as the GitLab interface, Web IDE, VS Code, JetBrains, and Visual Studio; before use, you must enable Duo and meet the relevant requirements.
The current document refers to this entry as “Non-Agentic Chat”; starting May 21, 2026, Duo Core will no longer include it. Users must distinguish between Agentic Chat and the Pro/Enterprise add-on benefits; the previous claim that it was freely included in the old Core is no longer valid.
