What is Tavotto?

Tavotto is a free, open-source tool used to complete scientific research charts. It opens charts that have already been drawn by an AI assistant or your own Python script (currently matplotlib), and you can change the title, legend, curves, and page layout on the canvas. The script remains unchanged, each edit is saved separately, and before exporting, the chart is checked according to the publication configuration file (font lower limit, column width, dpi).

Tavotto supports running on macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon), macOS 15+ (Intel), or Windows x64. Linux can run from PyPI (beta version). The installation process includes downloading the desktop application, which comes with its own Python environment, eliminating the need to install Python separately.

Key features

  • Edit the chart on the canvas: Double-click the panel, Tavotto runs your script once and keeps the matplotlib Figure in memory. Select the title, scales, curves, legend, or arrows, and then change their size, color, dash pattern, or position.

  • Layout multiple charts on one page: position panels in millimeters, align them, bind them to rows and grids, add (a)(b)(c) labels, and draw arrows, scales, and zoom boxes at the top.
