What is modelprint?
Modelprint is an open-source tool designed to perform infrastructure probing directly through the browser against any OpenAI-compatible API endpoint, in order to identify its true identity. The tool uses a series of probing methods, such as token counting, error codes, temperature settings, etc., for side-by-side comparisons, helping users determine the model and provider behind the API endpoint.
This tool requires no installation or server setup, all API keys remain within the browser tab, and all calls are sent directly from the browser to the provider. Modelprint was initially developed to investigate a secretive model named Ox Alpha, and later was used to discover hidden behaviors of other models, such as the DeepSeek API providing different models under an old name.
Key features
Run the probe directly through the browser, without needing to install or build a server.
Use multiple infrastructure detection methods, such as token counting, error codes, temperature settings, etc., for side-by-side comparison.
The community is extensible, allowing users to write their own probe scripts to further enhance the tool's functionality.
