What is ckan-mcp-server?
CKAN is the open-source platform behind most public open data portals globally (such as dati.gov.it in Italy, data.gov in the United States, open.canada.ca in Canada, etc.). Usually, one needs to understand the structure of the portal, its API, and search syntax to use these portals. This MCP server eliminates this barrier: once connected, your AI tool can do everything for you.
This server is based on open standards and open source. CKAN provides a fully documented public API, and metadata follows DCAT, an open W3C standard for describing datasets. Both can be freely used, freely built, and are maintained by an open community.
Key features
Search datasets, explore organizations, query table data, and read metadata through natural language.
Supports two usage methods: local installation and no-installation, providing quick startup and zero setup.
Provide limitations on fixed server scope, such as maximum character count, ckan_datastore_search row count, etc.
