What is OpenRouter?
OpenRouter provides a unified invocation entry point for multi-model applications, reducing the effort required to adapt interfaces across different providers. Users can browse model catalogs and pricing, try models via the chat interface, or create an API key to integrate models into their own applications.
The platform provides configuration for provider routing, failover, and data policies. Models and providers remain distinct dimensions: the same model may be offered by different service providers, and its availability, pricing, features, and data policies should be verified based on the actual routing.
The standard payment method involves purchasing credits and having them deducted based on model usage. Platform fees, model inference costs, and the provider’s BYOK billing must be understood separately; do not assume that a single entry point means all models are free or that there are no additional platform fees.

2026-10-24 Official pricing verified: For Standard, a 5.5% platform fee is charged on credit purchases; for Business, the fee is 8%. Model inference is billed according to each model’s published pricing. The Free tier is capped at 50 requests per day. BYOK incurs inference fees directly charged by the provider, with additional quota and overage rules set by the platform; not all API requests are free. Source: https://openrouter.ai/pricing
