What is AssemblyAI?
AssemblyAI offers speech-to-text and subsequent speech understanding capabilities as APIs. Pre-recorded audio transcription is suitable for existing files, real-time transcription is ideal for continuous audio streams, and the Sync interface provides direct transcription results for short audio clips; users can choose among these three based on application latency and processing requirements.
The Speech Understanding API provides speaker identification, emotion analysis, chapter segmentation, and summary generation; the Voice Agent API includes turn detection and interruption handling, while the Dictation API is designed to transcribe spoken input into text ready for sending. The Guardrails endpoint is used for handling sensitive information and ensuring content safety in audio and text, with specific supported features subject to the API documentation.
The platform provides development documentation and a no-code testing portal, but in this round no audio files were submitted nor any models invoked. On the official website, the Text-to-Speech feature is labeled as “coming soon” and should not be treated as an already available function; pricing, the language coverage of each model, and capacity limits should be verified separately, and the total number of languages listed on the homepage should not be applied to every individual API.
