Post-Quantum Authentication of IoT Data on Ethereum: Signatures, the Calldata Floor, and Device-Signed Merkle Roots

arXiv:2611.08108v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Field devices deployed today will still be producing records when quantum computers may break their signatures, so systems that anchor IoT data on blockchains need a post-quantum (PQ) authentication path now. We measure its cost on Ethereum under the current execution rules, including the EIP-7623 calldata floor and the EIP-7825 transaction cap, and under the calldata repricing scheduled for the Glamsterdam upgrade. We combine device-side measurements of ML-DSA, Falcon, SLH-DSA, LMS and XMSS, reproduced costs of open-source Solidity verifiers, a new standard-compliant LMS/HSS verifier for SHA-256 and SHA-256/192, and complete transactions on an Osaka-rule EVM, priced with today's verifiers and with proposed precompiles. Three results stand out. Signing every record costs 8.7 times as much as ECDSA even with an ML-DSA precompile, because the calldata floor rather than verification sets the price. When each device signs a Merkle root over 100 records, a standard LMS verifier available today costs about 3,350 gas per record, against 245 gas for ECDSA in the same design, and it is unaffected by the scheduled repricing, which raises floor-bound designs by up to 1.9 times. With the proposed precompiles, ML-DSA-44 costs 1,031 gas per record, and a hybrid ECDSA and ML-DSA signature adds only 2.5%. Post-quantum device authentication is therefore deployable on Ethereum without protocol changes, provided that the latency of batching and the data-availability properties of the chosen variant fit the application.

ProcessPrefBench: Evaluating Cross-Task Transfer of Individual Process Preferences from Naturalistic Human-AI Interaction

arXiv:2611.06065v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: In natural human-AI dialogue, users' corrections, requests, and self-descriptions carry reusable signals about how they want work to be done. These signals reveal individual process preferences, user-specific standards for evidence, depth, analytical focus, procedure, and delivery. We ask whether a preference revealed in one dialogue can shape an assistant's later answer when the task does not restate it. ProcessPrefBench uses three months of natural dialogues from two knowledge workers to build 66 source-target cases separately judged for source evidence and target applicability. Sources are preselected, so the benchmark tests application rather than retrieval. We test three models with target-only, full-history, and distilled-preference prompts. Target-specific 0-2 rubrics score preference realization, and a task gate flags severe failures. Compared with target-only prompting, full-history and imperative distilled-preference prompting raise preference realization by 0.204 and 0.244 points on the 0-2 scale, respectively, with no reliable advantage from distillation. Fabricated-evidence failures rise from 5.8% under target-only prompting to 10.1% under full-history and 10.4% under imperative prompting. ProcessPrefBench highlights a tension in learning from dialogue, where drawing on prior interactions can improve preference realization yet also invite fabricated evidence. We hope it helps build assistants that honor a user's process preferences without sacrificing factual reliability.

PSGAgent: Enhancing MLLMs' Dynamic Visual Perception for Panoptic Scene Graph Generation via Agentic Reasoning

arXiv:2611.07408v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Panoptic Scene Graph generation (PSG) requires holistic yet fine-grained reasoning over complex relations among objects. However, current Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) applied to PSG suffer from a perception bottleneck: they function as static observers limited by fixed-resolution views. As a result, models often overlook critical relations involving small or peripheral objects and struggle to differentiate ambiguous predicates in complex scenes. To address these limitations, we propose PSGAgent, an agentic framework that enhances visual perception for PSG through a think-act-observe loop. PSGAgent allows MLLMs to dynamically refine their visual perception using two tools: a Region Zoom-In Tool for local exploration of small or boundary relations and a Visual Highlight Tool for relation-focused segmentation that filters out irrelevant contextual noise. To optimize decision-making, we construct a two-stage training pipeline. First, we create a high-quality, error-aware Multimodal Chain-of-Thought (M-CoT) dataset that provides robust supervision for cold-start learning. Then, we design a novel hierarchical reward mechanism integrated with Group Sequence Policy Optimization (GSPO) to enable strategic and adaptive tool usage. Extensive experiments on the PSG benchmark show that PSGAgent achieves SOTA performance, demonstrating strong capability in both holistic and fine-grained scene understanding.

SAVeR$^2$: Reasoning-based Safety Alignment for Large Reasoning Models via Verifiable Rewards

arXiv:2611.07482v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have achieved impressive performance via explicit Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning, yet this process introduces critical safety risks. We formalize LRM safety objectives as requiring non-malicious reasoning and answers, safety consistency, and explicit intent identification. We argue that existing alignment methods suffer from poor adversarial generalization, a significant ``safety tax'' on reasoning, and unfaithful coarse-grained rewards, primarily due to their neglect of the LRM's intrinsic reasoning capabilities for safety. To address these, we propose \textbf{SAVeR$^2$}, a novel \textbf{S}afety \textbf{A}lignment method via \textbf{R}ewards with \textbf{R}easoning capability. SAVeR$^2$ decomposes the safety objective into four fine-grained verifiable reward signals and utilizes a difficulty-aware data selection strategy to stabilize training. Crucially, we introduce a reasoning-preserving gradient projection mechanism that analytically resolves conflicts between safety and reasoning gradients, effectively eliminating the safety tax. Extensive experiments on models ranging from 1.5B to 671B demonstrate that SAVeR$^2$ achieves superior safety performance and significantly lower over-refusal rates across multiple benchmarks without compromising general reasoning capabilities.

Selective, Risk-Controlled Emotion Forecasting in Conversation: From a Persistence Barrier to Departure Detection with Conformal Guarantees

arXiv:2611.05896v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Forecasting emotion in conversation is increasingly framed as predicting the next emotional state's value. We show this targets a hard quantity in a state-observed testbed and propose a learnable, deployable reformulation instead. On valence-arousal-dominance trajectories from a dyadic corpus, repeating a speaker's own previous state sets a persistence baseline that no frozen-encoder correction meaningfully improves upon and a state-space filter exceeds; the floor requires the historical state to be observed, since an estimated anchor collapses persistence below a direct forecaster. What survives is the timing of a departure from persistence, learnable on three of four corpora and near chance on the highest-base-rate corpus, a negative result we report. We recast the task as selective departure forecasting: a lead-time-weighted metric with a leakage protocol, and commitment policies whose best choice switches with the departure rate. A dialogue-level conformal risk control bounds the expected loss of committed predictions, meeting the target in all twelve configurations tested, though the guarantee is bought through abstention, with coverage and alarm recall falling sharply on the hardest corpus. One tested language model's confidence fails as a ranking signal where another succeeds, a model-dependent failure not yet attributable to family versus scale. Code and result logs are available from the corresponding author upon request.

Show HN: Cerea – yet another self-hosted LLM chat front end

Here is Cerea, a self-hostable, open-source (Apache 2.0) chat+agent frontend for LLMs. It works alone with any OpenAI-compatible inference provider, but it's way better when coupled with the model gateway I'm also developing, Pystino (https://github.com/paoloviviani/Pystino).I came to this after struggling to find a hosted chat interface that was truly open source, that I really enjoyed to use, and that was simple enough to be shared and used by family. In particular, I was looking for something that could provide the smooth and integrated user experience of commercial products for the tasks needed by family (e.g., document editing, form filling, notes and knowledge management), but backed by open models hosted wherever I decide. Then it became richer, now supporting: remote coding agents (wrapping Opencode), delegation and coordination between agents, integration between chat/projects and code agents (this one to me is a pain point for Claude, which I use at work), projects, RAG, rich artifacts support, schedules, and more. You can try it yourself, either cloning the full repo and head to Cerea/kit, or just the deploy kit with a script (https://github.com/paoloviviani/Cerea#quick-start).It's just a docker compose with a ./configure script that helps to generate a sensible .env for the specific scenario. It works in the browser and as a PWA on mobile.I hope you'll enjoy, feel free to reach out for questions. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50384502 Points: 1 # Comments: 0

Oracle wants to pull stalled AI agents out of demo mode and into production

Companies want AI agents faster than they can build the AI architecture to run them. Most can put together a convincing demo. Far fewer can move agents into production without exposing data, hurting uptime or blowing their budgets. That gap is pushing database providers to rethink what a data platform for agents has to deliver. Same model, better answer: Enterprise data is what turns generic AI into a business tool

Generic AI models can write SQL, but they don’t know a company’s orders, customers or revenue definitions. Now, Oracle Database aims to give AI agents the context to move a stalled order forward. But that shift raises questions about complexity, lock-in and security as AI agents start acting on live transactions. Oracle Corp.’s answer is […] The post Same model, better answer: Enterprise data is what turns generic AI into a business tool appeared first on SiliconANGLE.
