Omdia estimates that AI PC penetration will surge to 60% by 2027, yet buyers aren’t actually motivated by AI.
Omdia forecasts that AI PC shipments will rise from 33% in 2025 to 60% in 2027 and 79% by 2030, with institutions touting widespread adoption. However, surveys reveal that only 9% of respondents cite AI features as their primary reason for upgrading, while 62% upgrade simply because their current machine has slowed down, broken, or they want a better model. Additionally, 69% say they’d pay a premium for a PC capable of running AI locally—but when it comes time to actually spend money, AI isn’t the deciding factor, creating a stark contrast between strong supply and weak demand.
